What can the MS Specialist Nurse offer?
The MS Nurse is an experienced Nurse who is able to provide support, advice and information to anyone with, or affected by Multiple Sclerosis in Gosport and Fareham and the south East Hampshire area.
Who is the MS Specialist Nurse and How do I Contact Them?
"I am married with a young son and live locally. I enjoy water sports, especially kayaking and especially love spending time with my family. After qualifying I worked initially in the Wessex Neurological Centre for 3 ½ years. Whilst there I completed a specialist neurological degree and rotated across all departments.
Following this I moved to the Southampton City PCT as a staff nurse where I completed my District Nurse training, leading to my previous post as a District Nurse within the Hampshire Community Health. I also completed my Masters Degree in May 2011. I have both a professional and personal interest in Multiple Sclerosis and looking forward to taking on this new role, providing MS patients with the necessary advice and support to manage their care."
Once the neurologist has diagnosed Multiple Sclerosis, he and the MS Nurse Specialist can work together with you and your carers and professionals to devise the best possible way of meeting your particular needs, especially in terms of understanding your diagnosis and symptom management.
The MS Nurse specialist is able to refer you to other areas of support and services.
With the broad practical experience that the nurse has they are a useful contact for helping you to adjust to changes and any difficulties that may arise from time to time with the long term condition.
